The latest Charity Fraud Report indicates a concerning rise in fraud cases within the UK’s charity sector, with 43% of charities experiencing fraud or attempted fraud in 2023, compared to 36% in the previous year. The cost-of-living crisis is cited by two-thirds of charities as a factor increasing the risk of fraud. Notably, 13% of affected charities reported more than 10 fraud instances. Financial losses due to fraud were reported by 92% of surveyed charities, but the report also highlights broader impacts, including a 45% loss of morale among staff, volunteers, or trustees and 56% experiencing non-financial issues stemming from fraud.
